The Friday Music Shuffle 3.12.21

by Rick Johansen

It’s that time of the week when I set my music device to wander, allowing it to select 10 tracks at random and for me to tell you what they are. And if you want to sing along, all you need do is click on the song title!

Let’s rock!

  1. Blackjack by Airbourne. The Aussie AC/DC soundalikes have two songs: the fast one and the slower one. This is the former from 2007’s Runnin’ Wild. Fun fact: Airbourne effectively destroyed the hearing in my left ear when I saw them at Bristol’s Colston Hall.
  2. Continuing by Michael Nesmith. The superb talented Monkee from his 1972 long player And The Hits Just Keep On Comin’, an album that also features the brilliant Different Drum which Linda Ronstadt brilliantly covered.
  3. Gee by The Beach Boys. A very short gem from Brian Wilson’s incredible Smile record.
  4. She’s Goin’ Bald by The Beach Boys. Truly bonkers Wilson/Love/Parks tune from 1967’s Smiley Smile, which was rushed out when Smile stalled.
  5. I’m Always Chasing Rainbows by Harry Nilsson. Incredible cover of this tune written in 1917,  from the epic 1973 album A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night.
  6. Moonrise by Nitin Sawwhney. Fantastic, from 2001’s Prophesy.
  7. Mama by Toto. Live in 1980, love ’em or hate ’em, these boys can play.
  8. Think About The Days by The Beach Boys. Latter day Beach Boys without Carl, from their very patchy – and that’s being kind – album from 2012.
  9. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot. I’m a big Lightfoot fan and this is one of his greatest songs. The incredible story is told in the lyrics that come with the video.
  10. New York, New York by Ryan Adams. A belter to finish with from the lad’s great album Gold released in 2001. This video was made on Friday 7th September 2001. Four days later……

That’s all, folks!
