My radio station #1

Apple Music, where I keep all my music, uses AI to create what it thinks I would like to hear on an imaginary radio station. I am not against all AI – far from it – and I like Rick’s Radio very much.

Just for fun, here’s a ‘fun’ playlist of what my station is playing for me. As with the Friday music shuffle, click on the song title to listen along.

Let’s see what’s on the radio:

1. I Think I by David Crosby. Croz’s late career renaissance was quite remarkable, as he released a series of brilliant albums. One was 2021’s For Free, from which this lovely track comes.
2. Jayche Atarak by Tinariwen (feat. Daniel Lanois). I love this amazing Tuareg band from southern Algeria and northern Mali. Their 2023 album Amatssou was incredible.
3. Chemin de la Baie by The Besnard Lakes. Lush song from Quebec’s finest, which is on their 2025 album The Besnard Lakes are the Ghost Nation. Try it. You might like it.
4. No Damn Fears by Sloan. Never heard of them, but Apple AI thinks I will like them and I do. Title track of their 2025 album No Damn Tears. They’re playing a show in Hubbards, Nova Scotia in July, one of the loveliest places I’ve ever been to. Fancy coming with me if my lottery numbers come up tomorrow?
5. Alligator_Aviator_Autopilot_Antimatter by R.E.M. Proper banger from the band’s final album Collapse Into Now.
6. Wristwatch by MJ Lenderman. Abso-fucking-lutely brilliant from 2024’s Manning Fireworks. Buy this album.
7. In Color by My Morning Jacket. Jim James’ brilliant band have become personal favourites of mine over the years. This gem can be found on their 2021 eponymous album.
8. Hell Is Near by St. Vincent. What a lovely song by St. Vincent AKA Annie Clark from her 2024 LP All Born Screaming.
9. Up With People by Lambchop. You may know this. It’s from their 2000 album Nixon and it’s fantastic.
10. The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows by Damon Albarn. Title track of his beautiful 2021 long player. What a genius he is.
