The Friday Music Shuffle (8th May 2026)

by Rick Johansen

Greetings pop pickers and welcome to my Friday Music Shuffle.

Ten songs chosen at random from my collection by my music device and I tell you what it has chosen. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to click on the song title and listen along with me.

I hope you find something you like. Let’s rock.

  1. Hey, Mister, That’s Me Up On The Jukebox by James Taylor. Taylor’s 1971 album Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon is up there with his finest. A career high.
  2. In The End by Rush. From 1977’s Fly By Night, my favourite Rush album, this track takes a while to get going but eventually springs into electric life when the helium does its magic to Geddy Lee’s voice. Solid rocker.
  3. Amor De Loca Juventud by Buena Vista Social Club. Absolutely lovely from the indispensable 1997 eponymously titled album. You do own this record, don’t you?
  4. My Iron Lung by Radiohead. Absolute classic from their great album The Bends. I love them more every day.
  5. Doesn’t Matter by Christine and the Queens. From 2018’s Chris, this is rather lovely.
  6. Lavender Way by Michael Head and The Red Elastic Band. Arguably, Britain’s most underrated songwriter, this comes from what in my view is his best album to date, 2017’s Adios Señor Pussycat.
  7. All Right Now by Free. An all-time classic from 1970, featuring arguably (that word again) Britain’s greatest rock singer, Paul Rodgers.
  8. Just Like Gene Autry: Fox Trot by Moby Grape. This goes back to 1968, but it might as well be the 1920s. Barking mad and brilliant at the same time.
  9. Where’s The Love by Curtis Harding. From his fantastic soulful album, 2021’s If Words Were Flowers, this is just great.
  10. Your Daddy Hates Me by Drive-By Truckers.  This is from their epic 2003 album Decoration Day, then featuring Jason Isbell. Fantastic.

High quality, that, IMHO. Today’s Desert Island Disc is My Iron Lung by Radiohead.

Hope you liked it. Have a good week till next week.
