Hi all. Welcome to my weekly music shuffle.
As per usual, my music device selects ten songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to listen along, something you do by clicking on each song title.
It’s great fun, allegedly, so I hope you join in the “fun”. You never know, you might find something you like!
- Then I Met You by The Proclaimers. Back to 1988 for a track from their fine LP Sunshine On Leith.
- Pink Roses by Say She She. The wonderfully talented Say She She, here from their debut album, 2002’s Prism.
- Sweet Ladies Of Plymouth by Fisherman’s Friends. Their 2010 LP was entitled Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends and this lush song is on it. Love those boys.
- Swan Song by Bruce Hornsby. The instantly recognisable brilliance of Hornsby from his truly great album Spirit Trail. Nothing to do with Chuck Spencer’s cynical and exploitative book about his late sister, Dead Di.
- Can’t Buy My Love by The Beatles. Bona fide classic by the Fab Four from A Hard Day’s Night, my Christmas present for 1964.
- Take A Chance On Me (Live) by ABBA. From their 1979 live album Live At Wembley, this is pretty good for a live performance, always assuming it was live and there weren’t any overdubs. At a guess, I reckon it’s live. I always liked the blonde one. Benny, wasn’t it?
- Josie by Blink 182. A rare appearance on the shuffle from the boys, taken from their 1997 LP Dude Ranch. They can certainly rock!
- Out Of Sight by Spiritualized. I really love their 2001 album Let It Come Down. Hopefully, this lovely track explains why.
- Runnin’ Wild by Airbourne. The band have two settings: loud and fast and loud and slow. This, from 2013’s Black Dog Barking, represents the former. They make AC/DC look like a nightclub cabaret band.
- What’ll I Do by Harry Nilsson. Truly gorgeous Irving Berlin cover from the great man’s best album (IMHO), A Little Touch Of Schmilsson In The Night, released way back in 1973. Buy this record!
