This morning, I watched a great interview with Dr Albert Bourla who is the head of Pfizer. He confirmed what most of us always suspected, that we will need vaccine boosters for many years to come in order to prevent dying from Covid-19. I’ve got three lots of his vaccine in my system, which conspiracy theorists say means Bill Gates has planted in my body a microchip so he can see that I’m doing for every minute of every day. A bit like God, then. If he gets a kick out of my bathroom visits, always a highlight, then good luck to him.
Speaking of conspiracy theorist loons, Dr Bourla revealed the fake news (lies) he has had to put up with. One popular internet rumour was that he had been arrested by the FBI for fraud. Another, far worse, that his wife had died of Covid. If this is how the crazies react to good people doing good things then they must be full of self-hate.
Everything’s gone quiet with B.1.1.529. My feeling is that the news media is treating it a bit like a one day wonder because the media has moved on. ‘Only’ another 171 people were reported to have died from Covid yesterday and as long as the dead people aren’t family or friends, we’re pretty well anaesthetised from the fact that the equivalent of a packed Boeing 737 crashed, killing everyone on board, something that, given current numbers, is happening every other day. And there’s only so much the media can tell us about a variant that even scientists don’t really understand. If Asda yesterday was anything to go by, most people aren’t sufficiently bothered by the variant to wear a mask. To be honest, although I am wearing a mask when I am supposed to, protecting people who can’t be arsed to protect me.
Finally, we hear that Christmas parties are being cancelled because people are worried about catching Covid. DWP secretary Thérèse Coffey is telling us not to snog people we don’t know under the mistletoe. If I bump into her over the festive period, I’ll bear that in mind.
