Wow. What happened to next year? I was looking forward to next year last year and now I’ve got to wait for next year again for next year. And so it goes. Anyway, the Friday Music Shuffle.
10 songs chosen by my musical device at random from my collection and I tell you what it chose. And, if you want to listen or even sing along, just click on the song title and, as if by magic, there’s magic.
So, without further ado, let’s rock!
- Bluebirds Over The Mountain by The Beach Boys. A rare and lovely Beach Boys tune which was actually a cover, this time of Ersel Hickey’s 1958 tune. Robert Plant does a nice version.
- On The Beach (CRW mix) by York. Nice Trance here. You’ll know it. Chris Rea certainly will.
- Mr Policeman by The Rides. This is Stephen Stills’ short-lived supergroup and it’s great. From 2016’s blistering Pierced Arrow record.
- Walk Free (Flying Lotus remix) by Brandon Coleman. Absolutely fantastic track from the Brainfeeder X compilation album of 2018. Flying Lotus can do no wrong.
- Jealous Gun by Nils Lofgren. The veteran guitar god, currently of Springsteen’s E Street Band and Neil Young’s Crazy Horse, with a cracker from 1977’s solo record I Came To Dance.
- Closed Groove by Stiff Little Fingers. They made some good albums and one great one, 1979’s Inflammable Material, from which this belter hails.
- Losing My Religion (live) by R.E.M. Don’t know which version I’m listening to so I’ve chosen this one from You Tube. Will always miss one of America’s greatest rock bands.
- Comparsa by Deep Forest. Title track from their beautiful world music album of 1998. Music from Cuba, Belize, Mexico and Madagascar, among other places.
- Thorns by The Thorns. Really thought The Thorns were going to be something. Definitely my kind of music with shades of CSN&Y.
- Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order. From…gulp…1986’s Brotherhood long player, it’s truly great.
That’s all, folks!
