T’was the Friday before Christmas etc etc. Enough of that natty prose. Let’s get on to the serious business of turning your brain into papier–mâché by presenting a Friday Music Shuffle. Ten tunes picked at random from my collection by my musical device. I tell you what they were and, should you feel the need, you can click on the title and listen to it. Fun, eh?
Without further ado, let’s rock!
- Undertow by REM. From 1996’s excellent New Adventures in HI Fi, the band show us what we are missing.
- Down In Flames by Little Feat. Post Lowell George Feat from their 1991 album Shake Me Up, and featuring the excellent voice of Craig Fuller. But don’t bother to click on this one because I can’t find a video.
- Find A Heart by David Crosby. Crosby’s late renaissance as a songwriter has been as welcome as it has been surprising. The Croz album of 2014 stands comparison with much of his back catalogue and even as a stand alone piece it’s an outstanding piece of work. And this track is lovely.
- I Don’t Mind by Timothy B Schmit. Another angelic vocal from the Eagles man on a track from his lovely Expando album.
- The Ipcress File by John Barry. Yes, really. The theme from the Ipcress File of 1965, a movie starring Michael Caine.
- Inoculated City by the Clash. Less than three minutes of wondrous music from the Clash, taken from Combat Rock.
- Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers. Perfect anytime, but especially on a damp, overcast December morning.
- Granite by Pendulum. From 2008s In Silico, here the Aussies stretch from Drum and Bass to dance rock. Brilliant.
- Quiet on tha Set by N.W.A. From Straight Outta Compton,an album everyone should own.
- Dusty Morning by Jonathan Edwards. No, not the hop, step and jump man, but the brilliant American folk singer. This is from his album titled Jonathan Edwards, released in music’s greatest year 1971.
That’s all, folks!
