THE FRIDAY MUSIC SHUFFLE (17.12.21)

by Rick Johansen

If Omicron wasn’t bad enough for you, here’s something that’s even worse: the Friday Music Shuffle. 10 tunes chosen at random from my collection by my musical device (phone) and I tell you what they are. And if that’s not exciting enough, click on the song title to sing along.

So, without further ado, let’s rock!

  1. I Left My Heart In San Francisco by Tony Bennett. From 1962, an absolute classic. Let’s rock?
  2. Deadlines and Commitments by The Killers. Although Brandon Flowers’ band has been on a gentle decline since their early classics, they’re still capable of a decent tune, like this one from 2012’s Battle Born.
  3. Send My Love by Jordan Rakei. From Jordan’s brilliant 2021 album What We Call Life.
  4. Ella Jean by Timothy B Schmit. Lovely stuff from the Eagle, which comes from 2009’s Expando.
  5. The Modern Age by The Strokes. Title track of 2001’s great Is This It long player.
  6. Nightingale by Carole King. The wonderful Ms King from 1974’s excellent Wrap Around Joy.
  7. Positively 4th Street by Bob Dylan. Well, everyone knows this classic from…1965. Genius.
  8. Teardrops by The Proclaimers. From 1988’s Sunshine In Leith. Mint innit.
  9. Wouldn’t Have It Any Other Way by The Streets. The brilliant Mike Skinner from 2004’s A Grand Don’t Come For Free.
  10. Handle This by Sum 41. Apparently this is pop punk or skate punk, but it just sounds like decent rock to me, from 2001’s All Killer No Filler.

That’s all, folks!
