The Friday Music Shuffle (1.7.22)

by Rick Johansen

Only two months left of summer so let’s enjoy/endure it while listening to some of my music? What happens is that my musical device (phone) chooses 10 random tunes from my collection, I tell you what it has chosen and if you want to sing along – and who wouldn’t? – then just click on the title.

So, without further ado, let’s rock!

  1. Hitch A Ride by Boston. As my loyal reader will know, I have a soft spot for 1970s American rock. This, from the first Boston LP which also yielded More Than A Feeling, is a prime example!
  2. She’s Got A Way (live) by Billy Joel. Great live version of a lesser known belter from the Piano Man himself, Mr Joel.
  3. Toulouse Street by The Doobie Brothers. 50 years since the brilliant Toulouse Street was released. Here’s the title track.
  4. Tell The Truth by Derek and the Dominos. Given the racist, anti-vax loon he has turned into, I’m a little embarrassed I still have some of Clapton’s Music, but 1970’s Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is still his career high.
  5. I’ve Been Around Too Long by The Marmalade. Sounds more like Paul Rodgers/Free/Bad Company than the Marmalade. Excellent rocker from 1971’s Songs LP. The video is bonkers.
  6. It’s You by The Coral. Good stuff from 2016’s Distance Inbetween.
  7. Easy Come, Easy Go by The Sutherland Brothers. From the Scots lads who gave us the original and best version of Sailing – sorry, Rod – this is gorgeous.
  8. Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan. Title track of the Dan’s magnificent 1974 album Pretzel Logic, oddly enough. Essential.
  9. Good Luck by Basement Jaxx feat Lisa Kekaula. Fabulous from 2004’s Kish Kash. You may have heard this.
  10. Almost There by Andy Williams. Let’s go back to…gulp!…1964 for this short and sweet beauty from Andy Williams. I loved his voice.

That’s all, folks!
