The first Friday Music Shuffle of 2021 (1.1.21)

by Rick Johansen

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, It’s a new life for me. And I’m feeling good. Well, if it was a new dawn etc for Michael Bublé, I’d better make some kind of effort to make it one for me too. To that end, with the weakest possible of links, it’s time to set free my music machine to play 10 tunes at random. I then tell you what they are and thanks to the power of tinternet you can click on the title and hear it.

So that’s enough of me. Let’s rock!

  1. Editions Of You by Roxy Music. Cracking opener from 1973’s brilliant For Your Pleasure.
  2. Ful Stop by Radiohead. From 2016’s stonking return to form A Moon Shaped Pool.
  3. Holiday by Weezer. From 1994’s Weezer album, it’s just great.
  4. Northern Lights by Lux. Turn down the lights, close your eyes and dream of where you want to be. Beautiful.
  5. Last Train To Clarksville by the Monkees. Classic from their debut album of 1966 and featuring just two Monkees, Micky Dolenz on lead vocals and Peter Tork on backing vocals.
  6. She’s The One by Joe Vitale. The desperately talented Mr Vitale from his third solo album, 2008’s Speaking In Drums.
  7. Late Again by Stealer’s Wheel. Joe Egan sings lead on this great track, with harmonies from the late, great Gerry Rafferty, not that he’s in this video!
  8. Silver Springs by Stevie Nicks. This was meant to be on Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, but didn’t make the cut, which tells you just how good the rest of the songs were.
  9. Fame by David Bowie. From 1975’s brilliant album of the same name, this is of course great, with added John Lennon on guitar and backing vocals.
  10. All These Things That I’ve Done by the Killers. As Brandon and the boys slowly morph into a heritage touring jukebox, here’s a reminder of how good they were back in 2004 with this tune from the Hot Fuss long player.

That’s all, folks!
