The evening after the morning after

For what it’s worth, I’ve changed my mind on the penalty awarded to England last night, which won the Euro 2020 semi-final for our boys. Having endured ITV’s piss poor analysis on the night and seen only what they wanted me to see, I concluded that Raheem Sterling dived. But a dispassionate viewing has convinced me otherwise.

ITV dwelt on the challenge of Denmark’s number five, which might have suggested that Sterling fell after contact with thin air, but look at number 24. He definitely took him out. There was no reason for Sterling to go to ground.

Just goes to show that first impressions aren’t always right. Apologies to Raheem and if you’re an England fan who wants Italy to beat us because of this incident, then give your head a good wobble before checking out Immobile’s pathetic attempt to win a penalty against Spain by feigning death.
