The most ridiculous thing I have seen so far today, certainly in relation to last night’s local council elections, is the sight of a Conservative MP crying her eyes out because her party lost control of her particular council. Jesus Christ on a bicycle: get a grip woman. How do you think the rest of us feel?
Let us be very clear about this. The Conservative Party has been in government since 2010. They have been engaged in a vicious decade of imposing austerity on the country with the poor, the sick and generally the most vulnerable suffering the consequences. People are literally dying because of the collapse in social care and a politician is in tears because a few councillors lost their seats. You could hardly make it up.
Spend a day with someone who is in the frontline of the effects of austerity and I will show you something to make you change your mind, always assuming you have an ounce of empathy and compassion, which certainly rules out so many of our politicians both locally and nationally.
Don’t cry for a bunch of here today, gone tomorrow politicians whose sister ship, the national Tory party, has deliberately taken aim and fired at the very weakest people in society. Celebrate in their defeat. Sometimes actions have consequences.
