Sometimes you hear a record so good you just know you will be playing it forever. Like Steely Dan’s perfect Aja, words really aren’t enough. I’ve got another one of those records and it’s by Bruce Hornsby.
Not Bruce Hornsby and the Range, or the Noisemakers, but just plain old Bruce, playing with some stellar musicians and laying down some of the best music of his career.
Absolute Zero is unmistakably Hornsby and yet it is also highly original and experimental. He is an incredible piano player and his voice hasn’t aged a day since The Way It Is.
I am playing it constantly, every single day, and with each hearing it gets better and better; the best tenner I have spent in a very long time.
2019 is turning out to be a very good year for new music and there’s no new music better than Bruce Hornsby’s brilliant new album.
