News from the first team

The first team continued to show signs of revival with a 3-0 win against Lawrence Weston to rise to the giddy heights of 5th from bottom. 

Gifford got off to a slow start when Lewis Daniels hacked the opposing number 9 down in the box to concede a penalty. It was a reprieve for Fox junior when he saw the ball cannon back off of young Semple’s post. 

With not much going on up front, Martin decided to make a switch by moving Harry Black up front at the expense of Mad Mike who was put on the wing. The change paid immediate dividends as Harry lashed one into the top corner from 25 yards. 

With the Lawrence Weston defence still shellshocked, Gifford quickly made it two after a long throw was nodded in by newly transformed centre half Karl ‘Roots’ Rutter. With the defence still all over the place the Gifford almost made it 3, however Harry somehow failed to convert his header from a mere 3 yards out by putting it wide. 

Into the second half Gifford weren’t really threatened and Paddon managed to make it 3-0 capitalising on a rebound to tap into an empty net. 

The score line stayed this way and the village ran out easy winners. They could then look forward to copious amounts of booze and Neil ‘chef’ Whalen’s world renowned chilli in the speakeasy.
