I was shocked to see the headline on my Guardian – kids: it’s a newspaper, something your grandparents read – which reads ‘Palace to hold ‘bullying’ investigation. After gaining a creditable draw last night at home to Manchester United, just what had Crystal Palace manager done to upset the higher-ups at Selhurst Park? Roy Hodgson comes across as the most amiable of people. You wouldn’t think him capable of it. The photograph below the headline somewhat gave it away. The allegation is that Meghan Markle bullied staff at Buckingham Palace. When this became clear, I wasn’t shocked, nor remotely surprised.
The allegation, published in the Times newspaper, which is owned by the republican Rupert Murdoch, suggests that Markle ‘drove out two personal assistants’ when she was ‘a working royal’. I cannot begin to know whether the allegation is true and I certainly don’t want to belittle a subject as important as workplace bullying – trust me, it isn’t very nice – but what a coincidence this is.
Markle and her husband Prince Harry of Los Angeles have stepped aside from the firm to begin a new life and this is not allowed. As royals, they should have spent their lives going from place to place shaking hands with people and putting their names to worthy charities. Harry and Meghan would not be getting worse publicity now if they had taken a dump on the palace balcony.
The gutter press, or more importantly the readers of the gutter press, cannot leave her alone now. The attack dogs use the line that Harry and his wife use the media when it suits them for publicity but they can’t take it when that same media spread lies about them. They are hypocrites, apparently. Not only that, Markle is such a dreadful person even more of Harry’s hair has fallen out.
I have no doubt that this campaign of media hate would be resonating with consumers. It is not a coincidence that the Mail, which absolutely loathes Markle, enjoys the biggest circulation in the land. And, as we know, hate feeds hate. How do you think Nigel Farage became so popular in sections of the country? Then, from left field, comes an allegation of bullying. Hmm.
I am concerned that the Palace – not Hodgson’s Palace, although they would probably be more independent and objective – are doing the investigation themselves. Sorry for my cynicism, but can anyone else smell a very smelly rat?
Markle has, among certain folk, become a hate figure. In recent days, the hateful tabloids have been lecturing her to not speak out about how badly they were treated because of the fact that 99 year old Prince Philip is in hospital. ‘It will be YOUR fault if he dies,’ say all the newspapers. ‘Show some respect and shut the fuck up.’
If only there was some way of understanding why this black woman seems to attract some hatred from certain people. It’s well beyond me. Markle’s sister in law Kate Middleton seems to be well liked by the same media. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence. It would be quite wrong to suggest that a newspaper like the Mail, which once supported Adolf Hitler, could be anything other than freedom-loving and tolerant.
Maybe there’s some substance to the bullying allegation and even if there isn’t, I don’t think this story, or any number of hateful stories about the son, whose wife was a victim of a drunk-driver and the Paparazzi, will end with this. Hate sells newspapers and it attracts TV viewers. If Harry and Meghan think things are bad now, just wait until the hard right TV news stations start broadcasting non stop hate later this year. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
