Three of a kind

by Rick Johansen

Sometime in 2023, assuming I don’t drop dead, this blog will enter its 10th year. They said it would never last, but in the eyes of a steadily declining readership, it has lasted, just. I’m coming up to 5000 published blogs since 2014, which I am sure you will agree is an impressive number, a triumph you might suggest of quantity over quality. The format has barely changed. I’ve done mainly opinion pieces, as well as a weekly music ‘shuffle’, but in the coming days and weeks, I’m adding something new. My Top Three*.

My initial thought was to do a regular top three of songs by a band or an artist and write about the reasons for choosing them. But I thought, why should I merely confine my Top Threes to just songs? I can write about Top Three anythings. The world will be, as Arthur Daley used to say, my lobster. Or, more plausibly, it will renew my enthusiasm for writing, not that it ever left, and alleviate the boredom for my loyal reader.

Sadly, I don’t possess the writing skills of Paris Fury, Katie Price or Geri Haliwell, so I’m afraid I will never see my work in the Sunday Times best sellers list, but we go on until we can go on no more.

As well as bringing this blog back to life for my many millions of readers, I’ve designated 2023 as My Year Of Writing. As well as this blog, I have a series of travel writing projects, plus that difficult second book to rewrite and fail to find a publisher for. So much to do and so little time. But we’ll give it a go.
