The results are in

by Rick Johansen

I’ve been completely overwhelmed with the public reaction to my latest whinging and self-pitying blogpost about my health. The number of views approached double figures, which just goes to show how much love for me there is out there. Anyway, as Tess Daly always says on Strictly, the results are in.

Having been told the results of my X Rays would take a week to come through, imagine my surprise when they took a day? Anyway, the news is mixed.

The knee knack I’ve been suffering from is not arthritis. Instead, I have fluid on my knees. Nothing serious, my GP writes (It’s a Ask My GP type message), but if it doesn’t improve in a month, he’ll put me on the waiting list for physiotherapy. My big toe, however, is very arthritic and beyond help, which isn’t the best news, but then it was arthritic during my…er…stellar playing career so the only difference is that it’s worse now. The X Ray does show some gout, which to be honest didn’t require an X Ray because it bloody hurts. RECOMMENDATION: don’t get gout. More drugs on the way.

Clearly, the NHS is not quite at death’s door yet, given the fact that I have been referred for an X Ray, had said X Ray and had the result in six days, two of which were the weekend. I’m very impressed with that and thought it only right to spread the news to my loyal reader.

We hobble on.
