The Friday Music Shuffle (9.9.22)

by Rick Johansen

Believe it or not, I oohed and aahed as to whether to do a Friday Music Shuffle today; wondering if it was the right thing to do in view of people’s feelings about the death of the Queen. In the end, I decided to do it, but for one day only I won’t include any songs that I feel could be taken as being inappropriate. I’ll tell you at the end if I needed to do that. Meanwhile, here are 10 tunes chosen by my musical device in random order. If you want to sing along, just click on the title.

Let’s rock!

  1. Shoot ‘Em Up by Joe Vitale. Great track from my friend, the phenomenally talented Joe Vitale, from his 1975 classic Roller Coaster Weekend. Buy this album.
  2. For Your Life by Led Zeppelin. Brilliant from 2007’s live record Celebration Day.
  3. Compound Fracture by My Morning Jacket. I so love this band. This track comes from 2015’s The Waterfall.
  4. Invisible Paint by The Wondermints. Back to 1996 for a lush track by one of my favourite bands. Love the pub piano.
  5. You Always Let Me Down by Graham Coxon. Cracking rocker by the Blur man’s 2006 Love Travels At Illegal Speeds.
  6. Send My Love by Jordan Rakei. I so love Jordan Rakei. This is from 2021’s What We Call Life.
  7. Looking Through The Eyes Of Love by Gene Pitney. A 1965 hit for Gene Pitney. Marvellous.
  8. Start Me Up by The Rolling Stones. Opening track of 1981’s Tattoo You. Of course, it’s great.
  9. What D’you Know About Me by Jungle. Absolutely fantastic from 2021’s Loving In Stereo.
  10. The Terminal by Pendulum. A belter from 2005’s stellar Hold Your Colour.

No omissions were necessary.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is Shoot ‘Em Up by Joe Vitale. Love that man.

That’s all, folks. As you were.
