The Friday Music Shuffle (9.12.22)

by Rick Johansen

Here we are again with the Friday Music Shuffle. Ten songs chosen entirely at random from my collection by my musical device and I tell you what’s been chosen. If you want to listen, or better still sing along, then all you have to do is click on the title.

So, without further ago, here’s this week’s random selection.

  1. Walk It Back by R.E.M. Cracking start this week with a track from the band’s final album, Collapse Into Now, released in 2011.
  2. Endless Arcade by Teenage Fanclub. Title track of their 2021 album, the Scots remain a formidable band.
  3. Miyoko by Youssou N’dour. The brilliant Senegalese musician with a stonker from 1990’s Set. Proper ear worm chorus.
  4. Passion (Do You Want It Right Now) by Cat Decor. We now travel back to 1996 for some old skool house. Marvellous.
  5. Snakes On Everything by Little Feat. Opening track of 1971’s eponymous album which turned me on to this great band.
  6. Reason To Believe by Bruce Springsteen. This is from 1982’s brilliant and bleak Nebraska. One of the boss’s greatest records IMHO.
  7. Surfer Girl by The Beach Boys. Another album title track, this time all the way back to 1963. Beautiful.
  8. Pyongyang by Blur. 2015’s The Magic Whip represented a stunning return to form and this track is mint.
  9. Harmonia Mundi by Mike Oldfield. This is lush, from Oldfield’s 2007 long player Music Of The Spheres. Close your eyes and drift away.
  10. Into The Blue Sea by North Atlantic Explorers. This from 2014’s My Father Was A Sailor. I love it so much. Watch the video too.

My Desert Island Disc this week is the number ten, Into The Blue Sea by North Atlantic Explorers. The album from which it comes could easily be about my dad.

That’s all, folks!
