The Friday Music Shuffle (7.5.21)

by Rick Johansen

It’s May, but it feels like we’re still in February. Anyway, here’s some music to warm you all up. Yes, it’s that time of the week: 10 tunes chosen at random by my device , I tell you what comes up and you can listen by clicking on the title. Simples.

So, let’s rock!

  1. Down Below The Borderline by Little Feat. From the band’s 1975 The Last Record Album, here’s the great Lowell George and the boys.
  2. Swing 42 by Le Quientette Du Hot Club De France. From the 1940s, enjoy Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. Pure magic.
  3. Depreston by Courtney Barnett. From Courtney’s brilliant 2015 debut record Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit.
  4. Unforgettable by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole. Clever duet of the old boy’s classic, with daughter Natalie joining in.
  5. The World Is Not Enough by Garbage. Decent Bond tune from the American popular beat combo outfit.
  6. Out On The Weekend by Neil Young. From 1972’s Harvest, this is one of my favourite Neil tunes.
  7. Put ‘Em High (Claes Rosen Mix) Stonebridge ft Therese. Some lush chill out House.
  8. Wildflower by The Avalanches. Title track of their great 2016 album.
  9. I Want It Free by Kongos. The four sons of 1970s legend from their 2016 Egomaniac album. It’s patchy but this tune is good.
  10. The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight by The Dominatrix. Absolutely magnificent synthpop. I played this single to death when I bought it in 1984 but sadly no one else did and they soon dissolved. Such an earworm, too.

That’s all, folks.
