Hi Pop Pickers (one for the teenagers, there).
It’s Friday and time for the fun-packed music shuffle whereby my music machine chooses ten random tunes from my collection and I tell you what they are. And if you fancy a singalong, then just click on the title.
Without further ado, let’s rock!
- Chasing The Tail Of A Dream by The Coral. At long last, a track from Merseyside’s The Coral, from 2016’s Distance Inbetween. Nice.
- The First Day by Villagers. Another debut, this time from Ireland’s brilliant Villagers.
- Washington Bullets by The Clash. Simply magnificent. If you don’t own Sandinista!, are you alive? If so, why?
- Save Some (For Me) by John Martyn. 1980’s Grace and Danger was so great there wasn’t room for songs as good as this. Luckily, the re-released version included it.
- Some Kind Of Nothingness by Manic Street Preachers. From 2010’s brilliant Postcards From A Young Man and featuring Echo and the Bunnymen’s Ian McCullough.
- I’m Old Fashioned by John Coltrane. Incredibly, this wonderful track goes back to 1958 and comes from his epic Blue Train album. What a sax player he was.
- Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton. The trouble with greatest hits albums is that they have duds on, like this one. Sorry.
- Oh, You Beautiful Doll by Al Jolson. Back to the 1920’s for a bit of Jolson. Great stuff.
- Dumb by Nirvana. Wow – back to 1993 with this belter from In Utero.
- Countdown by Phoenix. And finally a cracker from the band’s 2009 long player Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is, obviously, Washington Bullets by The Clash.
That’s all, folks!
