In the bleak midwinter, or at least it feels like it today, we need some sun instead of rain, light instead of dark. However, in the absence of these things, I’ve asked my musical device to play 10 of my songs at random from my collection and I’ll tell you what they are. Why not join in the ‘fun’ and click on the song title to sing along?
Anyway, let’s rock!
- Yes I’m Changing by Tame Impala. Some lush psychedelia from Kevin Parker’s wonderful band, this from 2015’s Currents.
- Cedar Lane by First Aid Kit. This little gem is from the Swedish duo’s 2014 long player Stay Gold.
- Star In The Dust by Walter Egan. From Egan’s debut album, 1979’s Fundamental Roll, this has Fleetwood Mac written all over it, probably because Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks co-produced the bugger.
- Soleil De Volt by Baloji. Absolutely mint from the Belgian/Congolese rapper’s outstanding 2018 album 137 Avenue Kaniama.
- I Think I Love You by Andy Williams. Unlikely cover of the Partridge Family’s big hit by the legendary warbler, but I love the bloke.
- Love TKO by Daryl Hall and John Oates. The old Teddy Pendergrass tune, co-written by Womack and Womack, given the blue eye treatment by Hall and Oates on their 2004 album Our Kind Of Soul. Mostly covers, this is a great album.
- Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot. Title track of the Canadian folk man’s 1974 long player, featuring on drums Jim Gordon, once of Derek and the Dominos.
- Ohio by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The band, arguably at their peak, from the CSNY 1974 live record.
- C’mon, C’Mon by Sheryl Crow. The divine Miss C with a tune from 2002’s album C’mon, C’mon.
- Black Square by The Manic Street Preachers. Of course, it’s brilliant, as is the 2014 long player Futurology from where this tune came.
That’s all, folks!
