Greetings pop pickers and welcome to the first shuffle of the meteorological summer of 2026.
Just for a change, my music device chooses ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what it has chosen. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to click on the song title and listen along.
I hope you find something you like.
- Biz Ne Zaman Düşman Olduk by Gaye Su Akyol. Did I ever mention my love of Turkish rock music? I have now. A banging track from Gaye’s 2022 LP Anadolu Ejderi.
- Panic!!! by The Roots. Short (1:23) but very sweet. From their brilliant 1996 album Illadelph Halflife.
- El Baile Del Sobón by Los Amigos Invisibles. And now to Venezuela and a joint from the band’s excellent 2000 album Arepa 3000: A Venezuelan Journey Into Space. Buy this album.
- Song For Barbara Payton by The Avalanches. Australia now and this from their classic long player We Will Always Love You.
- Come In The Morning by Moby Grape. A quick hop to San Francisco in 1968. Interesting invitation.
- Adagio For Strings by William Orbit. Wiki says: a 2000 version of Barber’s work by William Orbit from the 2000 album Pieces in a Modern Style.
- The Bends by Radiohead. Utterly magnificent, title track of their utterly magnificent 1995 LP.
- Tommy Gun by The Clash. Speaking of greatness, here’s 3:17 of rock and roll perfection from the band’s best album (IMHO), 1978’s Give ‘Em Enough Rope.
- Are You Sleeping by Harry Nilsson. What a shuffle this is. Now a lovely tune from Harry’s 1977 long player The Point.
- Still Within The Sound Of My Voice by Linda Ronstadt. From 1989’s Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind, this is a song written by Jimmy ‘Wichita Lineman’ Webb and rather lovely it is.
My music taste (!) has come a long way over the years and I am happy about that. Some incredible contrasts here.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is The Bends by Radiohead. Obviously.
Have a good week till next week.
