The Friday Music Shuffle (29.5.26)

by Rick Johansen

Hi pop pickers and welcome to the last music shuffle of spring 2026 because from next Monday it’s the first day of the meteorological summer.

It’s been hot enough to boil a monkey’s bum in these parts over the last week or so and now it’s time to cool off by listening to a random selection of tunes from my record collection.

Here, my music device selects ten random songs and I tell you what its chosen. If that doesn’t sound exciting enough – and I fear it doesn’t – then why not click on the song title and listen along?

I hope you find something you like.

  1. Chateau by the Doobie Brothers. A proper rocking banger from the Doobies’ excellent 2010 long player World Gone Crazy.
  2. I Just Wanna Know by Taio Cruz. 20 years ago this cracking R&B tune was released.
  3. Evil Woman by the Doobie Brothers. A live version of this great track which appeared first on their best album, 1973’s The Captain And Me. This from the band’s 2019 long player Live from the Beacon Theatre. Magnificent.
  4. Go Free by Lack Of Afro. Some cracking soul music from Exeter’s finest. Do investigate 2023’s Square One. You won’t regret it.
  5. The Song Remains The Same by Led Zeppelin. How good is this? From 1973’s Houses Of The Holy.
  6. Colorado by Stephen Stills. Lovely song from his fine 1972 album Manassas.
  7. Little Bitty Pretty One by the Doobie Brothers. The third Doobie song so far, this time a live 2004 cover of Thurston Harris’s hit from 1957. The Doobie’s cover is on 2004’s Live at Wolf Trap.
  8. Speech Bubbles by The Smile. Thom Yorke’s other band here. This is live in Montreux. The man can do no wrong.
  9. Go Out by Blur. Well, this is brilliant, from the band’s also brilliant 2015 LP The Magic Whip. And the video? Wonderfully bonkers.
  10. Voodoo People by The Prodigy. Just wow. From 1994’s – 1994’s!!! – Music For The Jilted Generation.

Phew. I need a rest after listening to that lot. This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number six song Colorado by Stephen Stills.

See you in the summer.
