The Friday Music Shuffle (4.11.22)

by Rick Johansen

G’day everyone.

Yes, it’s Friday and therefore that time of the week where I set free my music machine to choose ten songs to play from my collection. I tell you, my loyal reader, what they are and if you want to sing along, then just click on the title.

I hope you enjoy whatever is to follow.

Let’s rock!

  1. Come Go With Me by The Beach Boys. A nice cover of Clarence Quick’s 1956 Doo-Wop song.
  2. Turning Up The Radio by Weezer. From 2010’s excellent Death To False Metal long player, a classic Weezer tune.
  3. Touch Me In The Morning by Diana Ross. A Motown cracker from 1973.
  4. Carry Me by Crosby and Nash. 1973 again for this belter from Wind On The Water. Features James Taylor on guitar and Carole King, very clearly, on backing vocals.
  5. The Strongest Person by The Streets. Mike Skinner is brilliant, as this gorgeous track from 2008’s Everything Is Borrowed proves, yet again.
  6. El Nino by Agnelli & Nelson. A bit of 2013 Trance here. Over 10 minutes mind, but mint nonetheless.
  7. Break by Aphrodite’s Child. Magnificent Greek prog rock from 1972’s wonderful 666 long player. Of course the band featured Demis Roussos and Vangelis Papathanassiou. Essential.
  8. Corazon Espinado by Santana feat. Maná. Lush track from the great man’s 2000 record Supernatural.
  9. Astronomy Domine by Pink Floyd. Now it’s back to 1967 for this track from The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Pre Gilmour but featuring the genius of Syd Barrett.
  10. Within by Daft Punk feat Chilly Gonzalez. So good from 2013’s stellar Random Access Memories.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is undoubtedly Break by Aphrodite’s Child.

Hope you enjoyed it. That’s all, folks!
