It’s time for my weekly music shuffle. My music machine (portable telephone) chooses 10 songs from my collection and I tell you what it’s chosen. And if you feel so inclined, you can sing along by clicking on the title.
So, let’s rock!
- Eviternity by Snowpoet. A lush tune from Jordan Rakei’s 2021 Late Night Tales. Every home should have this.
- Don’t Cross The River by America. Only 50 bloody years old, mind. Lovely tune. And those harmonies.
- I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever) by Michael McDonald. Just about the best cover of a Stevie Wonder song by anyone, ever. The best blue-eyed soul singer of them all.
- I’m Still Alive (live) by Abba. Back to 1979 when the real Abba were playing and not holograms. From their Live At Wembley album.
- You Get What You Give by The New Radicals. A truly great single from a truly terrible album, 1998’s Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too, which I bought thinking everything would be as great as the single.
- That’s Our Lamp by Mitski. A belter from 2022’s Laurel Hell, one of the best albums of the year so far.
- Better Do Better by Hard-Fi. 2005’s Stars of CCTV suggested the band for headed for great things. Turned out they weren’t but it was still a fine work.
- Without You (live) by The Doobie Brothers. Cracking live version of a Doobie’s classic from way back when, from 2018’s Live At The Beacon long player.
- Family by Joe Walsh. The great man surges back to form on 2012’s Analog Man. Ringo Starr, Joe’s brother in law, plays drums on this one.
- Daddy’s Eyes by The Killers. The band at their peak-ish with this cut from Sawdust.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number five tune, You Get What You Give by the New Radicals. If you’re going to crash and burn after one record, might as well make it this one.
That’s all, folks!
