The Friday Music Shuffle (28.5.21)

by Rick Johansen

Yes, it’s that exciting time of the week when my musical device chooses ten tracks from my collection and I tell you what they are. If you click on the track, you can sing along!

Let’s rock!

  1. Clouds by Prince. From 2014’s Art Official Age, this is a cracking start.
  2. Talking With Myself by Electribe 101. 31 year old House and it’s mint.
  3. I Took Your Name by REM. A storming return to good rocking form by the Athens, Georgia chaps’ 1994’s Monster.
  4. Love Gun by Cee Lo Green feat Lauren Bennett. From 2010’s The Lady Killer, Mr Green opens up those mighty tonsils.
  5. Hold Yourself by Tune-Yards. Brilliant 2021 indie pop from the album Sketchy.
  6. Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder. She really is. Class.
  7. Cars In Space by Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. From 2020’s wonderful Sideways to New Italy record. Essential.
  8. The Rivington by Free Nationals feat Conway, Westside Gunn and Joyce Rice. Much more than Anderson .Paak’s backing band, this one is from their 2019 album Free Nationals.
  9. Soolaimon by Neil Diamond. 1970’s Taproot Manuscript surely represents Diamond’s creative peak, side two of which is called ‘An African Trilogy’. This is from said Trilogy.
  10. Skill Of The Man by the Bees. From Every Step’s A Yes it’s great. Why they never made it, I’ll never know.

That’s all, folks.
