The Friday Music Shuffle (28.10.22)

by Rick Johansen

Welcome to the last music shuffle of October. We’re two thirds into autumn now so – and you won’t believe this – it’s only four months until spring. Be grateful for small mercies and the Friday Music Shuffle.

Here we go with ten tunes from my collection, chosen not by me but at random by my music machine. I tell you what they are and should you wish to sing along then just click on the track.

So, let’s go!

  1. Shakara by Ezra Collective Feat. Kokoroko. An absolutely effing brilliant track from the year of our lord 2019.
  2. Livin’ Underwater (Is Somethin’ Wild) by The Avalanches. Lush little tune from 2016’s quite magnificent Wildflower LP.
  3. Crawl by Kings Of Leon. This is rather good, from 2008’s Only By The Night. I find their poppy singles to be far weaker than their album tracks.
  4. Home Truth Song by Barry Gibb. This isn’t bad either, from the surviving Bee Gee’s 2015 album In The Now.
  5. I Wanna Be Free by The Monkees. Back to 1966 when Davy Jones melted the hearts of young girls the world over.
  6. Ferry Song by Twin Peaks. Fabulous band from Chicago, this is from 2019’s excellent Lookout Low album.
  7. Walls Come Tumbling Down by The Style Council. All the way back to *checks notes* 1985 for this gem by The Modfather.
  8. Fractal Dream Of A Thing by Stereolab. From their great 2008 LP Chemical Chords. So good.
  9. Do Something by The Eagles. From their last and almost certainly final album Long Road Out Of Eden. I doubt that this song gets an airing during their live shows these days and quite right too.
  10. Sidewinder by Teenage Fanclub. I can’t believe this was released in 1991 but it still sounds great today. From the Bandwagonesque long player.

As ever, it’s a close thing this week but because it lifted my spirits my Desert Island Disc is The Modfather’s Walls Come Tumbling Down, this week’s exciting number seven tune.

That’s all, foks!
