The Friday Music Shuffle (28.1.22)

by Rick Johansen

The Friday Music Shuffle is back? Christ, is it Friday already? What happened to the last week? Well, it is back and how unexciting is that?

Anyway, it’s the usual stuff. My musical device chooses 10 tracks at random from my collection, I tell you what they are and if you feel so inclined you can click on the title of the song and sing along.

So, without further ado, let’s rock!

  1. Born To Lose by The Avalanches. From 2020’s album of the year, the mighty We Will Always Love You, this is typically wonderful.
  2. Wings by Jordan Rakei. The great Kiwi/Aussie with a track from 2021’s What We Call Life. Essential.
  3. Desde Que No Estas by Fonseca. Really like this fine Columbian, this from 2011’s Illusion.
  4. Exhilarating Sadness by The Saw Doctors. All the way from Tuam, County Galway this is great (and 29 years old. How can that be?)
  5. Barbarella by The Wondermints. A cover of the 1968 theme music to the Jane Fonda movie. Brilliant cover, too.
  6. Ghetto Romance by Damage. Cracking R&B from 2000 by this British boy band.
  7. Welcome To The Weirdness by Electric Soft Parade. Such a criminally underrated Brighton band, this is from 2013’s album Idiots.
  8. Song For Someone by U2. Bono and the chaps gave me this album for free back in 2014, without me even asking for it. It’s not Under A Blood Red Sky or even The Joshua Tree but it’s okay.
  9. Lawyers, Guns and Money by Warren Zevon. From 1978’s wonderful Excitable Boy, which includes THAT Zevon song. Love it.
  10. Beauty In The River by Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Gorgeous country rock from the country rockers, taken from 1973’s Ozark Mountain Daredevils album.

That’s all, folks!
