The Friday Music Shuffle (27.2.22)

by Rick Johansen

Hooray, the weekend is here, but then as I haven’t worked for a year every day is a weekend for me these days. Anyway, it’s time for the Friday Music Shuffle. My musical device chooses 10 random songs from my collection and I tell you what they are and if that isn’t exciting enough, you can click on the song title and sing along.

So, without further ado, let’s rock!

  1. Lay Me Down by Steve Lacey. Fabulous stuff from the man from The Internet (the popular beat combo outfit, not the actual internet thing) taken from his 2019 album Apollo XXI. Buy this record.
  2. Unknown Legend by Neil Young. We go back to 1992 for this lovely tune from Harvest Moon. Listen out for the lovely Linda Ronstadt on backing vocals.
  3. Sweet Hitch-Hiker by Creedence Clearwater Revival. A great rocker from 1972 which I nearly played to death when I bought the single.
  4. Flake by Jamezoo. I can understand how stuff from the Brainfeeder label can be an acquired taste. Luckily, I acquired it when I started to buy their albums.
  5. Sunday Bloody Sunday (live) by U2. Incredibly, this version from the band’s Under A Blood Red Sky album is 39 years old. It shows what a great band they are when they don’t fuck with the formula.
  6. Old Flavours by Empire of the Sun. From their magnificent 2013 album, Ice on The Dune. Lovely electronica.
  7. Along Comes Mary by The Association. Back to the 1960s with the American harmony rock and pop band.
  8. Boutade by Mugwump. All I’ll say is listen to that bass line. Great tune.
  9. Ebb and Flow by Pink Floyd. Very nice from the 2014 album The Endless River.
  10. Journey Of The Sorcerer by The Eagles. An overblown instrumental from 1975’s One Of These Nights, there is no chance you will ever hear this on an Eagles setlist. It’s okay, but not the album highlight.

My Desert Island Disc from this weeks’ random selection is number three, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Sweet Hitch-Hiker.
