The Friday Music Shuffle (26.3.21)

by Rick Johansen

Welcome my friends to the show that never ends. Yes, it’s the Friday Music Shuffle where my musical device plays 10 tunes at random and I tell you what they are. And, if you want to sing along, then just click on the song title.

Anyway, no time to lose. Let’s rock!

  1. Beyond Here Lies Nothin’ by Bob Dylan. Excellent tune from His Royal Bobness’s 2009 long player Together Through Life.
  2. Kick Me Down by Jason and the Scorchers.  Country-tinged rock and roll from Mr Ringenberg and his great band. This is on their essential 1998 record Clear Impetuous Morning.
  3. Love Like A Sunset Part 1 by Phoenix. The English speaking French indie band from 2009’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. This is nothing like their usual stuff, until the last minute and a bit.
  4. Immigrant by Nitin Sawhney. This is beautiful. Have a listen. His new album arrived in my house about half an hour ago.
  5. Time To Get Ill by the Beastie Boys. If you don’t own Licensed to Ill, why not?
  6. Everything Connected by Jon Hopkins. From Jon’s brilliant 2018 electronica album Singularity.
  7. DUI by Thundercat. Great tune from Stephen ‘Thundercat’ Bruner’s exceptional 2017 album Drunk.
  8. Firehouse by Kiss. I always found their early records somewhat underproduced, like this song from their 1974 album, Kiss. For all that, I don’t think they ever got near this standard again.
  9. Blacker by Ballistic Brothers. Old skool electronica from a different century.
  10. With A Little Help From My Friends by the Beatles. It’s from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, innit? Genius.

That’s all, folks!
