So, here it is – the last music shuffle of the winter. Next week it will be spring and doubtless the music will be even sunnier. Or perhaps not.
Anyway, here are 10 tunes* from my collection, selected not by me but by my music device, and I tell you what they are. And, if that isn’t exciting enough, if you click on the song title, you can sing along.
Without further ago, let’s rock!
- Mimi by Big Red Machine feat. Ilsey. A cracking opener from the band’s 2021 album How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last. A long time, I hope. The band centres around The National’s Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.
- Burn The Witch by Radiohead. Top notch from 2016’s stellar A Moon Shaped Pool. And that video – brilliant.
- Hello by Take That. From the band’s 2009 The Circus (Live) long player. Possibly not a career high!
- The Wild Frontier by Bruce Hornsby and the Range. From 1986’s The Way It Is album, this is great.
- Young Americans by David Bowie. Title track of my favourite Bowie album, released back in 1975. Fun fact: Luther Vandross sings backing vocals.
- Out Of Love by Toto. Jean-Michel Byron didn’t last long with the band before he was fired, but I loved some of the stuff he sang on, especially this song.
- Let The Wind Blow by The Beach Boys. An absolute belter from 1967’s Friends. Love it.
- Making Time by The Treetop Flyers. Lovely tune from 2013’s The Mountain Moves album. Saw them at the Louisiana at the time. Such a great band. Another fun fact: Treetop Flyer was a Stephen Stills song about the Vietnam helicopter pilots who flew incredibly low.
- For Reverend Green by Animal Collective. Beautiful and bonkers, from 2007’s Strawberry Jam.
- Brushed by Paul Weller. I haven’t got much Weller – his stuff, especially The Jam, passed me by – but I do like this.
- You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers. *Bonus track! This came up as the first post shuffle track and I thought it seemed appropriate to include as a bonus given the state of the world right now and of course the Rumbelows Cup Final on Sunday.
That’s all, folks!
