Good day to one and all and welcome to this year’s Christmas Special. 10 tunes from my collection selected at random by my musical device, I tell you what it’s chosen and you can join in by simply clicking on title.
Are you ready to rock? Then, let’s rock!
- The Little Girl I Once Knew by The Beach Boys. Classic Brian Wilson from 1965, loathed by DJs of the time for the abrupt pauses and dead air!
- The Future by Teenage Fanclub. Still at the top of their game, this is from the band’s 2021 long player Endless Arcade.
- Satellite Of Love (2004) by Lou Reed (Dab Hands Remix). Surprisingly great seeing how good the original was!
- Got To Know The Woman by The Beach Boys. Evidence of Dennis Wilson’s emergence as a major creative force in the band, this appears on the band’s best group album, 1970’s Sunflower. The magical Pet Sounds is supposed to be a band album, but come on!
- Good Old Desk by Harry Nilsson. Lovely bit of whimsy, with some borrowed Beatles, by the late, great Harry.
- You’re Welcome by The Beach Boys. The B side to Heroes and Villains, all one minute seven seconds of it.
- Where I End And You Begin by Radiohead. From 2003’s excellent, of course it’s excellent, Hail To The Thief.
- You Know You’re Right by Nirvana. Simply magnificent.
- Between Nations by Field Music. Belter from the Sunderland boys’ 2020 Making A New World LP.
- Cousin Norman by The Marmalade. Finally, we go back to rock’s greatest year, 1971, for this Marmalade classic.
This week’s Desert Island is, just, You Know You’re Right by Nirvana.
That’s all, folks!
