The Friday Music Shuffle (22.7.22)

by Rick Johansen

Hi all,

Welcome this week’s music shuffle. Ten tracks from my collection but chosen at random by my portable telephone which holds my music. And if that’s not exciting enough, you can click on the track and listen/sing along.

Put on your slippers, light your pipe and let’s rock!

  1. The Garden by Take That. This is from 2008’s The Circus, TT’s second best album (Beautiful World being by far the best). Lush tune, mind.
  2. Cheek To Cheek by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Mad as a box of frogs, here’s one of Alex’s classic covers.
  3. Turn It Down by The Sweet. A little known Chinn and Chapman belter from the 1974 album Desolation Boulevard.
  4. Mr Webster by The Monkees. This little gem didn’t originally appear on the 1966 long player More Of The Monkees, turning up later as a bonus track on a re-released album.
  5. Wow by Kylie Minogue.  A 2007 banger from the divine Ms Minogue.
  6. Just The Wanting by Walter Egan. Great track from 1978’s Not Shy, co-produced by Lindsey Buckingham.
  7. We Can Run Away by Snow Patrol. Not originally on 2003’s Final Straw by showing up as a bonus track on a subsequent re-release. Really good.
  8. Highway Star (live) by Chickenfoot. One of the great rock covers, from the supergroup featuring Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Chad Smith and Michael Anthony. Better than the original? Ooh, yeah.
  9. That Was Then, This Is Now by The Monkees. The title track of their 1986 album, with only Mike Nesmith missing. It’s okay.
  10. Compton’s In The House by NWA. It took me a long time to ‘get’ NWA but I got them a long, long time ago. Everyone should own Straight Outta Compton.

This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number eight, Chickenfoot’s Highway Star.

That’s all, folks!
