Good day, pop pickers. If somehow you’re not hugely overexcited about the coming coronation of Charlie Windsor and Camilla Parker-Bowles, here’s something to send you off the excitement dial. Yes, it’s the Friday Music Shuffle.
10 songs from my collection, chosen entirely at random by my music device. As the music plays, I tell you what I’m listening to and if you want to listen and even sing along, just click on the title!
Without further ado, let’s get it on (although not if you’re in America because this means something slightly different).
- Blue Jean by David Bowie. So, let’s start in 1984 with a fine cut from the Tonight album. Ageless.
- 5 Dollars by Christine and the Queens. From the brilliant 2018 album Chris. She’s a he now but I still love him.
- Undecided by Shack. From 1995’s Waterpistol album, Michael Head’s staggeringly brilliant Shack.
- Answering Bell by Ryan Adams. Jesus – this joint goes back to 2001 and Ryan’s album Gold. Still sounds so good.
- Chestnut Mare by The Byrds. And now it’s 1970 and Roger McGuinn is trying to catch a beautiful horse. Lovely.
- The Horn by Midlake. One of my favourite bands, especially having seen them perform so brilliantly in Bristol last year. This from 2010’s The Courage of Others.
- Talk To Me by Bruce Springsteen. Great track from 2010’s The Promise. Still fond of the bloke, even if he has sold out his fans and embraced the crooked dynamic pricing.
- Collapsed In Sunbeams by Arlo Parks. Very short title track of her 2021 album. Tell me this ain’t beautiful.
- Plenty Of Girls In The Sea by MGMT. Aren’t there ever? A belter from their eponymous 2013 album which you should all buy.
- Late Night Final by Public Service Broadcasting. From 2013’s Inform – Educate – Entertain, this is so lovely. Incredible band. Catch them live, if you can.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is Chestnut Mare by The Byrds.
That’s all, folks!
