Freshly returned from a Canary Island, it’s time to counter the dark English autumn with some bright, happy music, or not as the case may be. Anyway, it’s time for my shuffle. Here, my musical device chooses ten random songs from my collection and I tell you what they are. And if you want to sing along, then just click on the track.
So, without further ado – let’s rock!
- Holy Man (Taylor Hawkins Version) by Dennis Wilson. A bonus track from Wilson’s brilliant 1977 album Pacific Ocean Blue. Arguably, the finest solo Beach Boy album. Very special.
- Drive In Saturday by David Bowie. Back to 1973 we go for this belter from Aladdin Sane.
- Shadow Captain by Crosby, Stills and Nash. Lovely Crosby song from 1977’s CSN long player.
- The Perfect Kiss by New Order. Good grief. This classic goes back to 1985. It’s still great today.
- Always Black by The Avalanches feat Pink Siifu. From 2020’s magnificent We Will Always Love You, just lush.
- Lady (Hear Me Tonight) by Modjo. Brilliant House from 2000 and featuring a neat little sample of Chic.
- Train Drivers in Eyeliner bt St Etienne. So lovely, from 2017’s Home Counties.
- Shining Light by Ash. Proper headbanger from the Norn Iron band. Absolutely love it. One of my all time favourite songs by anyone.
- Lowland Fling by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Slightly bonkers tune where Canadian heavy metal meets a touch of Scottish influence.
- Never Come Back by Caribou. Pardon my language, but this is fucking brilliant. From the 2020 long player Suddenly.
I really enjoyed that and I hope you did too.
This week’s Desert Island Disc just has to be Shining Light by Ash.
That’s all, folks!
