And so this is Christmas and what have you done? Well, you’ve elected Boris Johnson for one thing and we’re all off to hell in a handcart. In the meantime, let’s have some music; my regular Friday shuffle where I let my electronic device play ten tunes at random and I tell you what they are.
Without further ado, let’s rock!
Day At The Dog Races by Little Feat. Class instrumental from the excellent Time Loves A Hero record.
Faz Gostoso by Madonna feat. Anitta. Madge back on top form here from her most recent Madame X long player.
Doctor’s In by Pond. Sheer brilliance from the psychedelic Aussia rockers, complete with huge influences from producer Kevin ‘Tame Impala’ Parker.
YYZ by Rush. Live greatness from the Canadian rockers from their Time Machine 2011: live at Cleveland LP. The second instrumental of the morning so far!
You’ll Be Mine by the Pierces. Apologies for lurching into sexism and misogyny but this is a great tune from their excellent You & I album and I am still in love with Catherine Pierce, as well as another Catherine. Just don’t tell the latter.
Love You Inside Out by the Bee Gees. Barry Gibb in top castrato form on this tune from the Spirits Having Flown album. According to Wikipedia, During recording, ‘the Bee Gees played a prank on their manager Robert Stigwood sending him a version with the line “backwards and forwards with my cock hanging out” to see if he was paying attention to their work.’ I so hope this is true.
Only Son of the Ladiesman by Father John Misty. From his lovely album Fear Fun, Father John AKA Josh Tillman sings a lovely song, well, in a lovely way.
Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing by Stevie Wonder. Genius from the great man from his classic Inner Visions.
Golden Platitudes by the Manic Street Preachers. From their criminally underrated Postcards From a Young Man, this is absolutely wonderful.
Back In Black by AC/DC. Classic.
That’s all, folks! Back early next week for a Christmas special. Sorry!
