It’s that time of the week when my portable device chooses 10 songs from my collection and I tell you what they are. And if you want to sing along, just click on the song title!
Without further ado, let’s rock!
- Get Up Everybody by Byron Stingily. Very old skool House from back in the day. Mint.
- Drive Fast (The Stuntman) by Bruce Springsteen. Wonderful from the Boss’s 2019 Western Stars.
- Dreaming a City (Hugheskova) by the Manic Street Preachers. Instrumental track from the band’s excellent Futurology.
- Heysátan by Sigur Rós. Gorgeous tune from the Icelandic band’s 2005 record, Takk.
- Livin’ Underwater by the Avalanches. Includes a sample of Paul McCartney’s Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey and it’s lovely.
- It Might As Well Rain Until September by Carole King. Simply magnificent. Released in 1962. Wow.
- Sleeping Jiva by Kula Shaker. An instrumental from Crispian Mills’ cracking little band’s first long player released in 1996.
- Groatie Buckies by Erland Cooper. Stunningly beautiful by Orkney’s desperately talented Erland Cooper, from 2019’s Sule Skerry.
- Hole In Your Soul (live) by Abba. Live at Wembley Arena in 1979, this is terrific. I always preferred the blonde one. Benny, wasn’t it?
- Running Red Lights by the Avalanches (feat Rivers Cuomo and Pink Siifu). Dedicated to the great David Berman, this gem from the band’s 2020 We Will Always Love You, the best album of 2020 and maybe any other year.
That’s all, folks.
