Only a day or so until the nights start closing in again. Soon it will be…no, let’s not go there. Summer’s here and the time is right for throwing bottles at police officers whilst pretending to protect statues from no one at all. Mad, innit? Anyway, time for some normality.
Yes, it’s time for the Friday Music Shuffle where my musical device selects ten tunes and I tell you what they are. Exciting, eh?
Let’s rock!
- Youthful Expression by A Tribe Called Quest. People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm is one of the greatest albums of all time. Here’s why.
- Bankrupt! by Phoenix. Title track of the French indie rockers’ 2013 album. Great band.
- Jacob’s Ladder by Bruce Hornsby and the Range. From 1988’s Songs from the Southside, which was produced by the great Huey Lewis and his News
- But I Feel Good by Groove Armada. Classic electronica dance music with a gorgeous dollop of Ska.
- The Lovely Linda by Paul McCartney and Wings. A career low.
- This Weight by Midlake. From the American folk rockers’ 2013 LP Antiphon, their first without Tim Smith, yet you barely notice.
- Groom’s Still Waiting Here At The Altar by Bob Dylan. Ballsy, bluesy number from His Royal Bobness’s 1981 album Shot Of Love.
- Something Like That by NWA. From Straight Outta Compton. Need I say more?
- Eagle (live) by ABBA. From their Live at Wembley long player. The blonde one looks and sounds as great as ever. God, I love Benny!
- Tomorrow Comes Today by Gorillaz. More magic from Mr Albarn!
That’s all, folks!
