Welcome to spring. I know it’s been spring – at least the meteorological version which I stick to because it starts sooner – but it feels like it. A giddy 14c with just the odd white fluffy cloud floating by will do me and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. And what can we do on such a sunny day? Why, have a music shuffle, that’s what.
10 tunes from my collection, chosen at random by my device. I tell you what they are and if you feel so inclined you can sing along by clicking on the title.
Let’s rock!
- Devil Inside Me by Matt Perry. Matt’s debut on the shuffle, this is from his folky rocky 2013 long player Kill The Wolf.
- From The Ritz To The Rubble by the Arctic Monkeys. Abso-fucking-lutely brilliant from 2006’s debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.
- The Brazilian by Beak. Brilliant from Gashead Geoff Barrow’s band, from 2018’s >>>.
- Education by Modest Mouse. Slightly bonkers but always brilliant. A track from their 2007 We Were Dead before The Ship Even Sank, featuring the unmistakeable Johnny Marr on guitar.
- Jokerman by Bob Dylan. How do you have a favourite Dylan tune? It’s impossible, isn’t it? This from 1983 is mine. It features Sly and Robbie, erstwhile Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, Mark Knopfler and Heartbreaker Benmont Tench. I might play this again post shuffle.
- Nightcall by London Grammar. So lovely from 2013’s If You Wait. Co-written by a Daft Punk. Fact.
- Like It Like That by A Tribe Called Quest. Old skool hip hop from…checks notes…1998. How did that happen?
- Don’t Listen To Linda by The Monkees. This was originally left off The Monkees’ second album, cleverly titled More of the Monkees. And with good reason.
- The Last Of The Teenage Idols Parts 1,2 and 3 by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Last track of 1973’s classic Next. All killer, no filler.
- Right Now by Stephen Stills. From Still’s 1972 double album masterpiece. Amazing.
That’s all, folks!
PS I think this is a belter of a shuffle.
