Afternoon all. It’s Friday and time for the Friday Music Shuffle. Ten tunes selected at random by my music machine and I tell you what they are. And if you want to sing along, then all you need do is click on the title.
Let’s rock!
- The Other Side by Pendulum. Absolute belter from 2008’s In Silico.
- Every Ghetto, Every City by Lauryn Hill. This comes from Hill’s brilliant The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, released back in 1998. A truly great record.
- Show Me More by Girl Ray. I’m a big fan of Girl Ray and the 2019 album Girl, on which this joint appears, is lush.
- We All Stand by New Order. Great innit, from…gulps…1983’s Power, Corruption and Lies.
- All I Want by the Lightning Seeds. Very underrated band.
- Cherish by Madonna. 1989’s Like A Prayer was a great album and this is a great track. And this line – what’s not to love? “Romeo and Juliet, they never felt this way I bet.”
- Freedom in Your Mind by Santana feat Ronald Isley. Santana IV was a surprisingly good record and this song with Ronald Isley on lead vocals is of course brilliant.
- Sky Saw by Brian Eno. From Eno’s wonderful 1975 LP, Another Green World.
- Taking Me Over by Schmoov! How would you describe this track from 2005? Ambient deep house? I’ll call it mint.
- Do It Again by The Beach Boys. All time Beach Boys classic. Nuff said.
And here’s the bit you’re really waiting for: my desert island disc choice. Easy peasy. It’s the exciting number six song, Cherish by Madonna which, IMHO, is just about the perfect pop song.
That’s all, folks!
