The Friday Music Shuffle (16.4.21)

by Rick Johansen

Happy Friday, pop pickers. It’s time for the weekly music shuffle, where my music machine chooses ten songs from my collection and plays them at random If you want to play along, then just click on the title.

Without further ado, let’s rock!

  1. Tucson Train by Bruce Springsteen. What a great start, from 2019’s Western Stars. Essential.
  2. Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Absolutely love this song from the band’s debut album Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-Nerd, released way back in 1973.
  3. Blow By Blow by Laura Marling. Lush tune from Marling’s 2020 album Songs For Our Daughter.
  4. Hold Your Colour by Pendulum. High octane drum and bass from the band’s first album of the same name, released back in 2005.
  5. The Pretender by Jackson Browne. Well, I think this week is an exceptional week. This, from 1976, is literally perfect.
  6. Ooh Las Vegas by Emmylou Harris. Wonderful Gram Parsons/Ric Grech song from Emmylou’s 1975 long player Elite Hotel.
  7. Rockabye by Clean Bandit (ft Sean Paul and Anne Marie). Despite their dreadful Corbynista politics, Clean Bandit are so good.
  8. Give It 2 U by Robin Thicke (ft Kendrick Lamar). Some unfortunate lyrics in here (“Big dick for you” for example) but it’s a decent enough tune.
  9. Saturday Night Inside Out by the Avalanches. Far and away my favourite band on the planet right now, this piece of genius is from 2016’s Wildflower.
  10. Get A Move On by Mr Scruff. I reckon you’ll know this little dance tune when you click on it. I think it’s great.

That’s all, folks!
