The Friday Music Shuffle (12.8.22)

by Rick Johansen

It’s time for the Friday Music Shuffle, where my music device (phone) chooses 10 random songs from my collection and I tell you what they are. And if you want to sing along, just clock on the song title and you can.

So, let’s rock!

  1. Brain Stew by Green Day. Back to 1995 we go and this belter from the Insomnia long player.
  2. Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying by Steve Ellis. An exceptional cover of the 1963 hit tune made famous by Gerry and the Pacemakers, here by the Love Affair’s Steve Ellis, from his 2018 album Boom! Bang! Twang! which was co-produced by Paul Weller.
  3. Plug Me In by George Harrison. Recorded in 1970, this appeared on later editions of Harrison’s epic All Things Must Pass. An instrumental, it features Eric Clapton and Derek and the Dominos.
  4. Innocent Eyes by Graham Nash. Title of Nash’s strangely poppy 1986 album. Some good tunes on the record but this is very average.
  5. If This Were The Last Song by Bill Medley. An early Jimmy Webb song by the legendary Righteous Brother.
  6. 2 People by Jean Jacques Smoothie. His real name is, disappointingly, Steve Robson and he comes from Gloucester. This was his only hit, featuring samples from Minnie Ripperton’s Inside My Love. Brilliant.
  7. Waterfall by The Stone Roses. Nuff said.
  8. A Good Day by Timothy B Schmit. Unmistakably, the Eagles man with a tune from 2009’s Expando album. Lush.
  9. Man On The Moon by REM. Christ – 1992, from Automatic For The People. Rock music doesn’t get better than this.
  10. Tomorrow’s Girls by Donald Fagen. Perfection from 1993’s Kamakyriad, the Steely Dan man’s second solo record.

This week’s Desert Island Disc was about to be the exciting number nine selection until the even more exciting number 10 came along. It’s Tomorrow’s Girls by Donald Fagen.

That’s all, folks!
