Hi Pop Pickers. Welcome to the weekly music shuffle. My musical device has access to all my music and chooses 10 songs at random, which I then share with you. Please sing along by clicking on the title. You will then realise what terrible musical taste I have.
So, let’s rock!
- Master by Panda Bear. I love Panda Bear and his band Animal Collective. This is from his 2019 long player Buoys.
- Waltz For George by Public Service Broadcasting. Wonderful cinematic music from the band’s The War Room EP, a fitting tribute to the greatest generation.
- Holding On by Procol Harum. I could honestly listen to Gary Brooker singing the telephone directory. This is from 1991’s The Prodigal Stranger. Lovely.
- Tasmania by Pond. Title track from the Aussies excellent 2019 psychedelic pop LP.
- Grease (live) by The Bee Gees. This one was written by Barry Gibb. Not a lot of people know that. Here the brothers Gibb perform their version on their 1997 One Night Only album.
- Diallo by Wyclef Jean feat Youssou N’Dour. Back to 2000 and a track from Wyclef’s album The Ecleftic. Great to hear Senegal’s greatest Mr N’Dour on this.
- Wasn’t Born To Follow by The Monkees. This Gerry Goffin and Carole King song appears on the 2016 album Good Times. It’s rather good and features just the one Monkee, Peter Tork on vocals and banjo.
- Soul Searching by the Average White Band. Title track of their 1976 album, absolutely great.
- She’s Making Friends, I’m Turning Stranger by Purple Mountains. Purple Mountains was David Berman, formerly of the Silver Jews, who tragically committed suicide four weeks after the album Purple Mountains was released. It’s a tough listen.
- Girlfriend by Christine And The Queens feat. Dâm-Funk. We end in 2018 with this belter.
This week’s Desert Island Disc is the exciting number 10 song, Girlfriend by Christine and the Queens feat. Dâm-Funk.
That’s all, folks!
