The Friday Music Shuffle (12.2.21)

by Rick Johansen

Greetings, pop-pickers, to another Friday Music Shuffle, courtesy of my music machine (phone) selecting songs at random and me telling you what they are. If you want to listen along, just click on the title, and there it is.

So, without further ado, let’s rock!

  1. Have You Ever Loved A Woman by Derek and the Dominos. Over 50 years have gone by since the release of Layla and other assorted love songs. Old Slowhand has never once got close to the quality of this great record. Listen along to see what I mean.
  2. Freak Me Out by Weezer. From 2005’s Make Believe, here we find Rivers Cuomo in reflective mode.
  3. Cinnamon City by Jay Ferguson. The former Jo Jo Gunne and Spirit man from his brilliant All Alone In The End Zone album. Joe Walsh plays lead guitar. It’s great.
  4. Las Lycras Del Avila by Los Amigos Invisibles. From the album The New Sound of the Venezuelan Gozadera, this is simply lush.
  5. I Wanna Be Adored by the Stone Roses. Ian Brown may be a serious covidiot, but with his band he made one of the great albums ever called, believe it or not, the Stone Roses. This is a perfect pop record.
  6. Jesus Is Just Alright by the Doobie Brothers.  Two drummers and a percussionist here, like when I saw them at the Hammersmith Apollo a few years ago. One of my favourite bands ever.
  7. More Than I Know by Leftfield. Lovely electronica from the British electronica/House duo.
  8. Ecuador by Sash. Jolly old Dance tune. Especially like the video which was filmed in Lanzarote and Tenerife and not Ecuador.
  9. Tony Rome by Nancy Sinatra. Nancy sings the theme tune for the Tony Rome movie, the lead part being played by her father.
  10. Piano Man by Billy Joel. And let’s finish with an all-time classic where the great Billy Joel sings about Tonic and Gin. It’s the other way round, Bill.

That’s all, folks!
