Enough bad news, I say. Let’s have some even worse news: it’s time for my weekly shuffle. 10 tunes from my collection, chosen at random by my musical device (phone) and I tell you what it’s chosen. And if you want to sing along, then click on the song title!
Let’s rock!
- Time It Is Today by The Association. My loyal reader will know I have a great fondness for harmony bands. This lovely tune is from 1968’s Birthday.
- This Train On I’m On by the Doobie Brothers. Consistently excellent, this is from 1991’s Brotherhood.
- Run To Her by Mr Mister. Some real slush from the otherwise excellent Welcome to the Real World album from – Jesus H Corbett – 1985. It’s a bit like a Toto outtake.
- Casino Royale by Herb Alpert. Yes, I really love Herb Alpert. There. I said it.
- Roll With It by Steve Winwood. I’m old enough to remember when he was known as Stevie Winwood (the 1960s). This, from 1986, is magnificent.
- Body Music by Chris Rainbow. The desperately talented and scandalously overlooked Rainbow made some great music, not least this from 1979’s White Trails. Buy it if you ever see it.
- Shadows On The Street by Gentle Giant. The long overdue debut of prog rock giants Gentle Giant. Incredible band who I discovered about 40 years after they split up.
- Too Much Ain’t Enough by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. At their best they were a great rock and roll band and this was the band at their very best. Wonderful.
- Fine For Now by Grizzly Bear. From their marvellous record Veckatimest, let this wash over you.
- Luv N’ Haight by Sly and the Family Stone. Epic funk and soul from There’s a Riot Goin’ On, released in rock’s greatest year, 1971.
That’s all, folks!
