The Friday Music Shuffle (10/1/20)

by Rick Johansen

Friday, and it’s time to play some music. Worse still for you, I am asking my music machine to play ten of my tunes at random and I will tell you what they are. Why? Who knows? Because I can, I suppose.

Anyway, yer tiz. The Friday Music Shuffle. Let’s rock.

  1. Move Away by the Killers. Excellent rocker from Brandon and the boys from their Sawdust long player.
  2. Don’t You Know I Want You by the Human League. Not Don’t You Want Me? Still dead good though.
  3. Night Prowler by AC/DC. My AC/DC of choice, featuring Bon Scott on vocals. This from the Highway To Hell record.
  4. What Are You Gonna Do? by Creedence Clearwater Revival. From the patchy – at best – album Mardi Gras, this is risible and barely saved by John Fogerty’s guitar work.
  5. Cloud Nine by the Temptations. Perfect in every way. Classic Motown.
  6. A House Is Not A Home by Shirley Bassey. This is such an old Burly Chassis song, although she doesn’t even sound like her. Nonetheless, it’s absolutely lovely.
  7. The Us Below by David Crosby. The old Byrd and CSNY man has struck inspirational gold in old age, releasing a series of terrific albums. Lighthouse, from which this song comes, is a great example of Croz’s enduring talent.
  8. There She Goes Again by the Velvet Underground. From their 1967 (!!) album the Velvet Underground and Nico, this is lush.
  9. Ghost On The Canvas by Glen Campbell. Although Campbell was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease by the time he made this record, it was one of his best late career songs. Massive shades of Wichita Lineman, here.
  10. What’s Wrong? by Dennis Wilson. Dennis Wilson’s Pacific Ocean Blue remains the best solo album by any Beach Boy. A very jolly little rocker.
