The Christmas Eve Music Shuffle (24.12.21)

by Rick Johansen

So here it is, the Christmas Eve music shuffle. 10 tunes chosen at random by my music machine from my collection. And if you want to sing along, just click on the title!

  1. You Gave Up On Love by Boston. From their 2013 album Life, Love and Hope. Unmistakably Boston, even though lead singer Brad Delp had killed himself in 2007.
  2. Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door by Eric Clapton. Faux reggae from Slowhand, now an anti-vaxxer and all round loon, sadly. He was also the reason Rock Against Racism was founded.
  3. Streets of Baltimore by Gram Parsons. Lovely from 1973’s GP long player.
  4. Cajun Moon by JJ Cale. So cool, from 1974’s Okie.
  5. Come Alive by Madonna. From Madge’s excellent 2019 album Madame X.
  6. Doesn’t Matter by Christine and the Queens. If you don’t have their 2018 album Chris, from which this tune comes, give your head a big wobble.
  7. Shock and Awe by Neil Young. A very angry Neil on this track from 2006’s Living With War.
  8. Running On Empty by Jackson Browne. Love Jackson Browne and this is why. Recorded live at Merryweather Post Pavilion back in 1977.
  9. Live On (The Wall) by Crosby and Nash. Brilliant from 2004’s Crosby and Nash record. “And when we bought into the lie, who was counting up the cost? Underneath a foreign sky so many lives were lost.’ Iraq, anyone?
  10. The Visitors by Abba. Well, it’s Abba, innit?

Merry Christmas everybody!
