That Friday Music Shuffle (4/8)

by Rick Johansen

Welcome Back, My Friends, to the Show That Never Ends. It’s Friday afternoon, it’s sunny and warm (it really is) and it’s time for my iPod (a discontinued machine, I am sorry to say) to start playing random music. And it’s dead loud too here in my man cave, like.

1. Eight Ball by Underworld. well, it’s Underworld, innit, so it’s bound to be mint. And it is.

2. Little by Little by Groove Armada. I mean, this has got Richie Havens on it. That’s enough, isn’t it?

3. Move On Now by Hard Fi. There was a time when they released Stars of CCTV that I thought Hard Fi were the next big thing. Turns out they weren’t but they could never top this album anyway.

4. There’s a touch by the Proclaimers. More filler than killer, but okay.

5. Get On Top by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Nice little tune from Californication.

6. Svensk Sas by Todd Terje. It’s Album Time was a great album and this is one of the tracks by Norway’s finest DJ and songwriter.

7. He’s in Town by the Rockin’ Berries. All I know about this song is that it was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, probably on their day off.

8. Blowin’ in the Wind by Stevie Wonder. I’d like to think Bob Dylan was flattered to hear that Stevie had covered his classic tune.

9. A Minute Longer by the Stereophonics. Performances and Cocktails was a lovely record. I just can’t believe it was released in 1999.

10. Down the Road Tonight by Bruce Hornsby and the Range. Anyone who thinks Bruce is nothing more than The Way It Is should listen to The Way It Is, the album from whence this song comes.
