And now the end (of the week) is near and you must face a random playlist selected by my portable telephone. Ten songs, chosen at random, and I tell you something uninteresting about them. And to make it all the more depressing, it’s the final shuffle of the meteorological summer.
So, here goes. Let’s rock!
Have Thine Own Way, Lord by the Blue Ridge Rangers. A lovely country music tune by the Rangers, all of whom are Creedence genius John Fogerty.
LA Girls by Weezer. From the 2016 ‘White’ Weezer album, this is classic Rivers. The video is a bit good, too.
A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules from the Centre of the Ultraworld (Jimmy Cauty & De Alex Patterson Aubrey Mix) by the Orb. Very long title, very great ambient House from the London electronica outfit.
Pocket Calculator by Kraftwerk. Classic Kraftwerk from their live album Minimum Maximum.
Everybody Loves the Sunshine by Roy Ayers. This jazzy gem from 1976 will wash over you, if you let it. So, let it.
Watchin’ Over Me by James Taylor. It took until 2015 for Taylor to make an album as good as Sweet Baby James and Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon. Before This World is a classic in itself, mind. Genius.
Slam by Pendulum. Some lush drum n bass from the Aussie boys’ album Hold Your Colour.
Dr Beat by Gloria Estefan. Backed by her excellent Miami Sound Machine, I just love our Glor.
It’s A Good Life by Kongos. Bearing more than a passing resemblance to John Lennon’s Instant Karma, the sons of the legendary John Kongos (He’s Gonna Step On You Again) make some good tunes and this, from their LP Lunatic, is a very good tune.
Girl by Belly. Lovely, tuneful alt-rock from their 2018 album Dove.
